Icon lights up, distribs 'Cigarettes'

Firm joins MGM as co-financer of Turturro's pic

Icon Entertainment Intl. will co-finance and handle international distribution rights to "Romance & Cigarettes," written and to be directed by John Turturro.

James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon and Kate Winslet will star in pic, which is set to start filming in late fall.

MGM/UA will co-finance pic with Icon and release pic in North America, Latin America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. IEI will handle remaining international sales rights and distribute in the U.K. through Icon Film Distribution.

Pic, a dark comic musical that tells the story of one man's journey into infidelity and redemption is being produced by John Penotti and GreeneStreet Films. The Coen brothers, Icon's Bruce Davey and Janus Films' Jana Edelbaum will serve as exec producers.
